
William Allchin of Northampton. established in 1847 , was one of the pioneers among traction engine builders, which were the most economical form of transporting heavy loads for nearly a century.
Built in 1925, this single cylinder engine weighing 94 tons could pull up to 38 tons, and was capable of producing 32 brake H.P. it was the last traction engine made by William Allchin Ltd.
Unfortunately very few are left working today, but enthusiasts are buying these fine examples of engineering for preservation and may be seen from time to time at traction engine rallies.
